Four Common Cleaning Practices Make Things Dirtier
Cleaning mistakes aren’t always obvious. They don’t appear to be dangerous, and they rarely lead to immediate issues, which is why they’re so easy to repeat. It’s important to note that certain cleaning methods can actually result in the spread of dirt, germs, and grime.
1. Dry dusting

Use dry cloth or feather duster to wipe the furniture. Dust released into the air can flow anywhere. This can worsen air quality and trigger asthma and allergy symptoms. Furthermore, dry dusting typically only removes a thin layer of dust and is ineffective for thoroughly cleaning furniture covered in thick layers of dust.
Solution: Replace dry dusting with damp dusting. Damp dusting uses a lightly moistened cloth to remove dust from furniture surfaces. After damp dusting, wipe again with a dry cloth to prevent watermarks from forming.
2. Mopping the entire house without washing the mop

If the mop is not washed before being moved between different rooms, grime will be accumulated on the mop head. Furthermore, if the mop is not cleaned promptly after mopping, mold growth and unpleasant odors can be caused.
Solution: Clean the mop before commencing mopping. Allocate rooms for cleaning in sequence from drier to damp areas. For example, start with the bedrooms and living room, then move on to the kitchen and bathroom, where humidity and grease are higher. Maintain a consistent mopping direction to prevent cross-contamination. Clean the mop immediately after use and store it dry.
3. Use concentrated cleaning solutions

Using a concentrated cleaning solution without diluting it with water may leave chemical residue on the cleaned surface. Floors and tiles may become scratched, damaging surface materials. Some of the cleaning solutions can cause serious skin and eye irritation.
Solution: Dilute the cleaning solutions with water according to the specified ratio. Wear protective gloves to prevent skin irritation. Carefully review the instructions to confirm whether rinsing is required.
4. Mix detergent to clean

Mixing different cleaning agents during cleaning is extremely hazardous. These chemical reactions may release toxic gases that endanger health. For instance, bleach combine with acidic substances produces chlorine gas, causing coughing, breathing difficulties, and stinging eyes.
Solution: Use only one detergent at a time. Store cleaning tools for different rooms separately. If cleaning agents are accidentally mixed, ventilate the area immediately and do not attempt to neutralize the mixture. Wait 30 to 60 minutes until the chemical odor has completely dissipated.
