Water Leaking from Your Air Conditioner?

Have you noticed your air conditioner dripping? Though seemingly a minor issue, this could be an early warning sign of potential faults. Understanding the internal condition of your unit is the first step in preventing more significant damage.

1.     Overflowing Drain Pans

Drain pan acts as a collection point for water condensed during the air conditioner’s cooling process. When humidity levels rise, accumulated condensate may overflow from the tray.

2.     Clogged Drain Line

Clogged drain line is a typical cause of air conditioner leakage. Accumulated dirt, dust, and mold obstruct water flow, leading to internal water accumulation and backflow within the unit.

3.     Old Pipes

Over time, the protective coating on air conditioning pipes may degrade due to wear and tear, thereby causing leakage issues.

4.     Insufficient Refrigerant

As the refrigerant level decreases, the system pressure drops accordingly, causing the evaporator coil to ice up. After switching off the air conditioner, the melted ice causes water droplets to drip down.

5.     Improper Air Conditioner Installation

If the air conditioner is not installed at a level, condensation functionality may fail, leading to accumulated condensate and leakage.

6.     Dirty Filter

During the cooling process, warm air flows through the filter and a series of cooling coils to be cooled. Dust accumulates on the filter, causing the airflow to slow down. When the dust layer becomes thicker, the cooling coils become iced over. After switching off the air conditioner, the melted ice causes water droplets to drip down.

How to Prevent Air Conditioner Leakage

  1.     Clean aircond regularly
  2.     Schedule annual maintenance

Neglecting air conditioner leaks may lead to more serious malfunctions later on. Regular maintenance, prompt inspections and swift repairs ensure the refrigeration system operates efficiently and safely.
